Editorial & Data Quality Policy

The standards behind every page we publish

Traceability

Every quantitative figure we publish is traceable to a cited, publicly documented source — the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2018–2022) or the Zillow Home Value Index. If we cannot trace a number to a source, we do not publish it.

No fabricated or modeled fields presented as fact

We do not present estimated, modeled, or synthetic values as if they were measured. Fields we cannot source — including crime/safety scores, school ratings, weather, and composite livability indexes — are not published.

Rankings and “best of” content

Written guides may discuss how to think about neighborhoods, but any ranking or “best” conclusion must be supported by fields we actually store and cite (for example, income or home value). Articles whose rankings depend on data we do not have in verifiable form are either rewritten to source-independent guidance, or removed from indexing and internal linking until backed by real, cited data.

Clear as-of dates

Because ACS is a multi-year survey and Zillow’s index is monthly, we label figures with their vintage or as-of month rather than implying continuously refreshed or live figures.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and transparently. See our corrections policy and methodology.
